The Peabody Memphis Hotel was originally integrated 1869 by Colonel Robert D. Brinkley. It was designed to become a location for the well-to do; a place to view and be seen from the top echelon of southern culture. His close friend George Peabody, a well known philanthropist and international banker, died, prior to Colonel Brinkley opened the hotel.
