Many, many programs are open to students throughout all Phoenix Public Schools areas. Feeling the frequent importance of changes, and to keep up with international and national standards, Phoenix Schools are meeting these needs directly. Like, some Phoenix Schools have implemented innovative Science, Art, and IB (International Baccalaureate) programs.

InnoWorks, a new science program open to disadvantaged Phoenix Schools middle-school students, was applied in February 2007 by Grace Hsieh, a junior in the University of Arizona. Hsieh was looking to take up a peer mentor and tutoring program when she stumbled on an internet site describing the program InnoWorks, which had its origins at Duke University.

Phoenix Schools middle-schoolers be a part of a free of charge science camp organized and run entirely by UA undergraduates. Twenty-four students from six Phoenix Schools were selected for the camp. InnoWorks leaders hope that by exposing disadvantaged Phoenix Schools students to university campuses and science re-search, more students will soon be inspi-red to examine science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

'Immediately it was simple to recognize just what a good system it was, in its idea and vision,' Hsieh said.

Hsieh has sought out travelers by calling Phoenix Schools experts and teachers, hired about 20 other students to work as advisors, and gathered about $20,000 in contributions to finance this program.

Explorer Middle College lately received the Mayor's School of Excellence Award for Outstanding Achievement in Arts Education. Developing arts within their academic classes is something that makes this person in the Phoenix Schools unique.

Key Marianne Bursi feels the understanding of art relates to all areas of study.

'We find students discover more by doing,' said Bursi. 'The mind remembers more with images in the place of just looking at common text. To discover more, please have a gaze at: thumbnail. Each quarter, seventh-graders should just take world languages, visible arts, chorus and applied technology programs. After they are in eighth grade, these Phoenix Schools children can then choose which they prefer for your year

Mesa Public Schools can quickly become the first school district in Phoenix Schools, and one of just a handful nation-wide, to provide an IB system to students from kindergarten through the conclusion of high school.

Gregg Good, is the IB coordinator for one Phoenix Schools high school which started offering the program a year ago. Directors continue to be determining the best way to test young Phoenix Schools elementary students in-a 'culturally neutral' way to determine which young ones may participate in the thorough IB plan for that 2007-2008 school year..
