Many, several programs are offered to students through-out all Phoenix Public Schools zones. InnoWorks, a new technology program open to disadvantaged Phoenix Schools middle-school students, was applied in February 2007 by Grace Hsieh, a junior in the University of Arizona. Hsieh was looking to take up a peer mentor and tutoring program when she found a website detailing the program InnoWorks, which had its beginnings at Duke University.

Phoenix Schools middle-schoolers take part in a free science camp organized and run solely by UA undergraduates. Twenty-four students from six Phoenix Schools were chosen for the camp. InnoWorks leaders hope that by revealing underprivileged Phoenix Schools students to science research and university campuses, more students will soon be inspi-red to examine science, engineering, engineering and mathematics.

'Immediately it was easy to understand what a great system it was, in its idea and vision,' Hsieh said.

Hsieh has gathered about $20,000 in donations to fund this program, employed about 20 fellow students teachers to work, and sought out campers by calling Phoenix Schools counselors and teachers.

Traveler Middle College lately received the Mayor's School of Excellence Award for Outstanding Achievement in Arts Education. Adding arts within their academic classes is a very important factor that makes this member of the Phoenix Schools special.

Primary Marianne Bursi believes that the understanding of art relates to all fields of research.

'We find students discover more by doing,' said Bursi. 'The mind remembers more with visuals instead of just looking at common text. The [students] find [they have] many hidden talents since art is incorporated in-to all their instructors.'

Each quarter, seventh-graders are encouraged to take world languages, visible arts, chorus and applied technology programs. These Phoenix Schools children can then choose which they prefer for that year, after they are in eighth grade

Phoenix Schools are beginning to provide kiddies in Grades K-10 a way to study via the International Baccalaureate program. This is a training style used around the world that pushes students to become experienced in at least two languages, think critically and learn from a worldwide perspective by studying other countries.
