Their usually said in Martial-arts that the meaning doesnt lie in how good you're or what strip you've, rather the meaning is based on the journey. Before I enter What Black Belt Means To Me, I would like to speak about my journey of those past few weeks.

The Vacation

I'd flown to Nashville to try for my long-awaited San Dan (third degree Black Belt - That is similar to getting the official Teacher) a week ago. Before the test I had been training consistently since April of this season at a friends dojo and my local gym.

It'd been about 5 years since Ive last applied my control, Wado-Ryu Karate-Do, so my recollection of the system was very vague. After seeing numerous tapes of myself as a new martial artist, I had re-learned my under belt curriculum, however I was struggling to remember my black belt curriculum. Knowing something about martial-arts, ones under belt understanding is essential since it is considered as the inspiration of ones education. On-the other hand, lots of people believe that your education truly begins if you realize your first black belt. I couldnt agree more. When I was offered to Sho Dan (1st Degree Black Belt) my meaning about the martial arts and Wado-Ryu had grown considerably and I began to really learn.

In any event, I needed to know everything that may have possibly been cast at me because it had been 10 years since my last official test.

In July, I went to Nashville to train with my highly recognized and beloved teacher Sensei Wayne Tyler. I consider him being a father figure in my martial-arts career as a result of his great knowledge of Wado-Ryu and unconditional love for his students and the art. Imagine being a scientist and your instructor was Albert Einstein that is what it feels like to be under the wing of Sensei Tyler (or Mr. Tyler, when I call him). I used to be in Nashville training with Sensei 2-3 hours every day for 5 days. I caught up on my curriculum and took the extra information which was handed down by him and applied it to my training back in Denver. Again, since I didnt know what to expect, I conditioned myself to be ready for almost anything. Not only was I exercising my katas and basics (Japanese types), but I was also working 2 miles, three times each week, 15-20 minutes on the rowing machine and about 6-7 miles on the stationary bicycle. I dont think I could have been more prepared with this test.

I effectively passed my test and was offered to San Dan o-n October 17th 2006. I must say, this is one of my greatest successes within my martial-arts job and a dream come true. It's taken me many years to achieve this goal, but it's reinforced my interpretation to be a black belt, or in my case San Dan.. This impressive www.amazon.com/mechanics-online-reputation-management-control/dp/1519762259 web site has varied salient lessons for the meaning behind this thing.
