A Whale of a Journey Exploring Oregon 34804
Mountains - Oregon adventures abound!
Oh whoa, a whale! I heard my partner exclaiming beyond your hotel room. I wondered where on earth she was and what sort of nuisance she was pulling as her voice drifted in through a window. I put in a state in the place, trying to find several more winks after our evening journey down the Oregon coast. The youngsters voices chimed in with hers, back behind our hotel room someplace, exclaiming about their first sitings of sharks - on the market. Surprising awake, I realized that they were discussing sharks, and were calling me to move out there before I missed them - no kidding involved!
Because I had never seen anything like that in my own whole life, a good thing I moved too. I certainly never likely to be therefore lucky on this jaunt we mountain people from Montana had taken to the Oregon coast. After I stumbled in the lodge room, down the corridor and across the building, to my amazement, there it was. As big as life and to our complete amazement, right
off the rocky shore below the resort we were staying at in Seaside, Oregon, a pair of whales were working their way along with-in close view of the shore. To local individuals and to the others that live along the places shores that may well not happen to be any huge deal. But if you ask me, my wife Evie and the youngsters, Ash and Rob, really seeing a whale spouting - only blew us away!
We were on a journey - a hut pursuit journey - to-the coast which Ill look into more in another report. Briefly, we first passed through Washington, studying the Mt. Tahoma Hut Process over near Mount Rainier. Our second halt was at the Oregon State Park at Beverly Beach to-see what they'd completed with the magic of yurts. Our next stop was back in eastern Oregon, considering the Wing Ridge Ski Tours hut/wall tent arrangement back up inside the Wallowa National Forest end of Oregon. Very brilliant stuff they were putting together and well need to address those more on down the story-line.
A real high-point of the journey, Seaside, Oregon provided a little of magic towards the research on a level I'd not even remotely anticipated. Our coastal basecamp was a highly skilled hotel, the Seashore Inn, right there on the shoreline. It absolutely was the type of place that when you went around to the sea side of the accommodation you managed to clambor over the rocks and as a result of the waters edge. As stated before, having grown-up in Montana and Colorado, the likelihood of actually obtaining a hotel room directly on the ocean shore was one of those goals that seldom involves truth. But, the amazement of finding real whales working the waters right off shore from that spot - that really pushed the bag of my expectations. Our small family had traveled late into the night, working our method to this Sea-side place, and collapsed into the motel room in-the wee hours. To the joy, following the development of the sharks, second part of the morning the children unearthed that the spot had a great in-door pool. They settled within to play and relax from the past days journey. We also found we were within an easy walk of the present shops, coffee shops and restaurants of Seaside, a truly wonderful, peaceful, right on the shore small group, with a complete panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean right across the street - Highway 101.
Right around the building corner from our place we had our very own piece of Pacific Ocean coastline for your couple of days we kept in that wonderful spot. The kids found star fish around the stones under water, the most wonderful tiny multi-colored sea urchins, and an endless number of sea shells along the coast when the tide went out. The crowning touch naturally were the whales, true spouting whales skating right out in the nearby waters.
We slept because small corner of paradise just for a couple of days, enjoying the area around Sea-side. We explored the nearby coastal pieces, marveling at the formations at Canon Beach, drinking in these amazing views out-to the sea, and marveling at the roar of the waves on the rocks. Fantastic pieces of a world of the type people from the Rocky Mountains never thought possible.
The next day we gathered up our belongings, pulled the children out of the pool, and continued our exploration of the huts and yurts of the Pacific northwest. During a brief stop-over at Beverly Beach we learned the great yurts of the Oregon Parks program, checking out a yurt they had put up for camper leases. That was certainly an item for future reference on some return visit to the area - a yurt on the Pacific coast - imagine that.
Our trips finally brought us to depart the coastal areas and head inland to the far northeast corner of Oregon, back up in to the Wallowa section of the state and the Wallowa Mountains. Outside the small city of Joseph, Roger Averbeck of Wing Ridge Ski Tours light emitting diode me on an excursion up toward the Eagle Cap Wilderness, showing me his hotels for cold weather ski trips. He gives com-pletely furnished and insulated wall tents backup in the timber, just down from hill faces and dishes, ideal ground for that hardcore backcountry skiing enthusiast.
That trip through Oregon was a tour to keep in mind from your sea shores for the eastern mountains. We were so thankful that at every basecamp area along our long path there were remarkable motel accommodations, all at reasonable rates. In the case of the incredible Sea-side site, they actually put in the whale-watching sensation at no additional cost.
