I recently received yet another 'please help' mail from a man called Ian who runs an adventure organization in Tanzania (http://www.betheladventure.co.uk ). Ian was concerned with the consequence of a variety of problems including indexing and link dampening, and was desperate for help. Unfortuitously, he had read some rather misleading articles before, so he had a somewhat confused knowledge of the factors at play. Because I suppose he is maybe not alone in his distress and concern, I decided to submit the facts of our conversation.

Ian's mail consisted of many issues. I have shown each individually below, followed closely by my reaction.

Q: When I look for the number of backlinks to my site using 'link:www.betheladventure.co.uk', I see only 2-3 results. It appears that only 23 of our backlinks have survived Google's dampening link filter. Can there be an occasion delay before they are paid to your site? '

A: Firstly, I do believe you might have the dampening link filter just a little confused. In line with the dampening link filter idea, your links are found and acknowledged by Google, you simply don't have the full advantage from them until certain time period has passed. The dampening url filter (if it exists) doesn't stop links from appearing in Google's results whenever you search for them. (The only reason your backlinks might not can be found in a Google search is if Google has not yet listed the pages containing the links.) Also, do not worry too much about things such as the dampening link filter. In the event people need to discover further on Teleley: ley, norma, dispositivos, legislacion, peru, abogado, abogados, lawyer, codi, we recommend many resources people might investigate. To begin with, it's definately not established / accepted fact. Several well-regarded Search Engine Optimisation professionals don't believe in it at all. Furthermore, even if it does exist, it only affects those companies using the budget to generate the large numbers (hundreds or thousands possibly) of links reputedly necessary to trigger it. That's not a problem, if your variety of backlinks suddenly increases by 20.

And secondly, do not feel anything Google lets you know. By searching for 'link:www.betheladventure.co.uk', you generally only view a small percentage of real links to your site. The simplest way to search for links is to search for only the URL 'www.bethaladventure.co.uk', then on the page that shows next, select 'Find web-pages that include the term 'www.bethaladventure.co.uk' .' When you do it in this manner, you'll see most of the pages which contain your URL. Generally, the URL is likely to be a dynamic link (or at the very least it should be, and you should keep these things make it so). When you do this search, you'll see that your website has about 169 links, maybe not 23.

Q: Another question is about found pages (using site:www.betheladventure.co.uk). I am aware it is a history of pages that have been changed. Linklicious Vs Backlink Booster includes extra resources concerning why to provide for it. I'd 3-2, it went down to 28 and it is down to 26 now this morning. Do they only keep the pages for monthly or is there more towards the pages than I realized?

A: The number of indexed pages is simply the number of pages in your website that Google 'knows about.' Theoretically, the only real time age a page is necessary is once the page is also young*, i.e. Google lions haven't visited it yet, or Google hasn't updated its list. As to why the reported number of indexed pages is reducing, I suspect it is merely a temporary move. The amount of leads to Google's searches differs pretty much constantly.

*Actually, formally speaking, it has been suggested that Google is not capable of indexing all 11.5 million pages currently considered to be online (and the 10 million more that are added every day), and that as it indexes new pages, old pages are pushed out from the list. (This is a really rough description of the idea - if it is happening at all, it's apt to be a lot more complicated than this.) If this is happening, it might explain why the reported number of indexed pages is reducing. A simple method to take care of it's to maintain top quality content, to generate a Google sitemap, to keep generating backlinks, and to keep increasing it, while I think it is a long-shot. Happy indexing!.
